How bold text works on X
X has no bold or italic button for regular posts. What looks like bold text in other peopleโs posts is made of special Unicode letters: ๐ฏ๐ผ๐น๐ฑ and ๐ช๐ต๐ข๐ญ๐ช๐ค versions of the alphabet that are characters of their own, not formatting. Because they are characters, they show the same in posts, replies, your name and your bio, on every phone and computer.
This formatter swaps your letters for those characters. Only Latin letters have styled versions, and some styles also include digits; punctuation, emoji and other alphabets stay as they are.
Use it with care
Screen readers read styled letters one by one or skip them, and search on X does not find words written in them. Style a word or a short heading to make it stand out, and keep the main message in plain text.
Styled letters also count as 2 characters each towards the 280 limit, so a fully bold post fits half as much. The counter above the box shows the real length.

Can I write in bold on X?

Does bold text work in my X bio and name?
Yes. Styled letters are ordinary characters, so they work in your display name, bio, posts and replies.
Why do styled letters take more characters?
X counts each of these characters as 2 towards the limit, like emoji. A post of only bold text fits 140 letters.
Will people find my post in search?
Words in styled letters are not matched by X search. Keep the words people search for in plain text.
How do I turn styled text back into plain text?
Paste it into the box, select it and press Plain. The letters turn back into normal ones.
