Thread maker: turn long text into an X thread
Paste an article or notes and get a ready X thread: posts under 280 characters, cut between sentences, numbered 1/n, each one ready to copy.
Posts are cut between paragraphs, then sentences. Put --- on its own line to start a new post exactly there.
Your post shows up here as you type.
How to use it
- 1Paste your article, notes or long post into the box.
- 2Check the thread on the right; add --- on its own line wherever you want a new post.
- 3Copy the posts one by one into X, or copy the whole thread at once.
How the text is split
Each post stays within the 280-character limit, counted the way X counts it: links as 23 characters, emoji as 2. The thread maker keeps whole paragraphs together when they fit, then breaks between sentences, and only cuts between words when a single sentence is longer than a post.
Numbering adds "1/5", "2/5" and so on to the end of every post, and the room for it is kept inside the limit, so a numbered post never runs over.
Tips for a thread people finish
The first post does most of the work: it is the only one most people see in their feed. Put the promise of the thread there, in one or two short lines, and leave the details for the posts below.
Give each post one idea, end with a summary or a question, and keep threads short. Most threads that do well have 4 to 10 posts; X allows up to 25.
Posts that sound like you, published on time.
plotpost writes a month of X posts and threads in your own style, and a drag-and-drop calendar publishes them through the official X API, with analytics to see what works.

How many posts can a thread have?
Up to 25 posts when you post the whole thread at once. The thread maker warns you when the text needs more.
Can I choose where a post ends?
Yes. Put three dashes (---) on a line of their own and the next post starts there, even if more text would fit.
Should I number the posts in a thread?
Numbers such as 1/5 tell readers how long the thread is and that there is more below. Switch numbering off if you prefer a cleaner look.
How do I post the thread on X?
Paste the first post in X, press the plus button to add the next one, and repeat. Or schedule the whole thread in plotpost, which publishes it through the official X API at the time you set.
Is my text sent anywhere?
No. The thread maker runs in your browser and nothing you paste leaves the page.
